Design:
The M240 carbine-format
flamethrower is designed for use in close combat. Fuel droplets stick once a
target has been hit and continue to burn for approximately 30 seconds. The M240
is ideal for its ability for the flame to be directed through defensive
apertures when attacking fortifications. It's drawbacks are it's short range
and the likelihood that the fuel reservoir will rupture when hit with small
arms fire. There is a valve at the rear of the incinerator for refueling and
the reservoir can also be screwed off and refilled or replaced.
The tactical area and
terrain should always be carefully considered before employing flame units
because the fuel is difficult to extinguish once lit.
Firing Options:
To increase the range to 50 meters, the M240 can be fired upward at a 45 degree
angle, allowing the burning fuel to descend in an arc. However, the weapon
loses it's effectiveness when fired this way.
The Wetshot: Firing a stream
of fuel toward the enemy and then igniting the vapor, creating a fireball.
The Blind Angle Burst: Used
during close quarters battle where a flame burst is bounced off facing walls or
surfaces to attack enemies around corners.
